Empowering students to step confidently into life and leadership

Our young women are the leaders of tomorrow.

Yet as they leave school and navigate the workplace, one of the key barriers they face is self-doubt.

It’s time to change this.

And we’re here to help.

Girls’ confidence levels drop by 30% between the ages of 8 and 14 years.

It’s a paradox: girls are achieving academically like never before, yet they battle self-doubt on the inside.

In adolescence, girls feel pressure to be liked, to fit in, and to stay connected to their peers. This often comes at the cost of staying connected to themselves.

Kay et al., (2018)

This dip in girls’ confidence levels during high school is particularly troubling because of the long-term implications.

It can mean that healthy risks and opportunities are repeatedly avoided, while self-belief and resilience isn’t stockpiled for the future.

The confidence gender gap that appears during adolescence often remains throughout adulthood.

Self-doubt costs women dearly.

It further exacerbates the systemic barriers

women already face.

  • Perpetuates bias

Women are often subject to gender bias, but self-doubt makes women believe that this bias is justified and stops them from challenging the status quo.

  • Promotes self-criticism

We all have an internal critic that can drive us, but self-doubt fuels this critic, stopping women from speaking up or taking healthy risks.

  • Prohibits growth

Women feel pressure to be extremely competent, getting stuck in striving for perfection and acceptance, rather than forging their own path.

In a world that rewards creativity, innovation, and speaking up, we need to support young women to grow into the next generation of bold, courageous, and empowered women and leaders that we need.

Schools must go beyond educating young women’s minds, to giving them the tools to navigate self-doubt.
